How to Choose Football Gloves: Receiver, Padded and Lineman Gloves Exp – KUTFTBL

Football gloves split into two families: receiver-style gloves built for grip, and padded gloves built for protection. Choosing well starts with your position.

Receiver gloves: grip first

Receivers, tight ends, running backs, and defensive backs wear gloves with tackified palms — a sticky surface treatment that increases friction on the ball. The back of the hand is lightweight and flexible so the glove never limits how your fingers close on a catch. KUTFTBL's Klutch Pro 1.0 is this style: built for skill players who are targeted all game. See both styles in the gloves collection.

Padded gloves: protection first

Padded gloves add impact foam across the back of the hand and fingers. Linemen strike and shed with their hands on every snap; physical backs and linebackers take contact there too. The padding absorbs that punishment while a grippier palm than bare hands still helps you control the man in front of you. KUTFTBL's Stryke Pro is the padded option in the gloves collection.

How gloves should fit

Measure from the tip of your middle finger to the base of your palm, and match it to the maker's chart. The fit should be snug: no extra material bunching in the palm (it kills feel on the ball) and fingertips close to the glove ends. A wrist strap or closure matters more than players think — it keeps the glove from rotating on your hand during a catch or a strike.

Care notes that extend grip

  • Wipe palms with a damp cloth after games; dirt and dust are what kill tackiness first.
  • Air-dry gloves; heat from a dryer or a hot trunk breaks down the grip treatment and the padding.
  • Carry a backup pair on tournament and game days — a torn strap or a soaked glove should not end your day. A mouth guard and backup gloves are the two cheapest insurance policies in your bag.

The short version

Skill positions: receiver gloves, snug, grip-obsessed. Line and physical positions: padded gloves, snug, protection-obsessed. Either way, fit by measurement — not by the size you wear in anything else.
