Compression gear only works at the right size. Too loose and it is just a shirt; too tight and it fights your breathing and your motion. This guide covers how compression should fit and how to find your size.
How compression should fit
A compression shirt should feel like a firm second skin: contact everywhere, no baggy spots, no fabric bunching at the waist or under the arms. You should still be able to take a full deep breath and raise both arms overhead without the hem riding up past your waistband. Sleeves should end where the style intends — a long sleeve at the wrist, a half sleeve at the elbow — without pulling.
Measure your chest
Wrap a tape measure around the fullest part of your chest, under your arms, keeping the tape level. Match that number to the size chart for the specific product line: KUTFTBL compression sizing chart. Related charts: padded girdle, leg sleeves, and double arm sleeves.
Between sizes?
- Under shoulder pads (tackle): size up. The pads add bulk and the shirt needs to stretch over your frame plus equipment.
- 7v7, flag, or training: stay true to size for the tightest, most secure fit.
- Still growing (youth players): size to the chart now rather than buying room to grow — loose compression loses the benefit, and fit affects confidence on the field.
Youth vs adult sizing
Youth cuts are proportioned for younger athletes, not just shortened. If the chest measurement lands near the top of the youth range, compare against the adult chart before ordering. The youth compression range is in the compression collection.
Fit checks for the rest of the kit
A padded girdle should sit with the waistband at your natural waist and hip pads centered on the hip bones. Gloves should be snug through the palm with fingertips near the ends — grip material only works when the glove does not twist on your hand. When in doubt between two sizes on any padded piece, choose the one that keeps the pad over the bone it protects during a full range of motion.
Still unsure? Measure, check the chart, and pick by the number — not by the size you wear in a t-shirt. Compression sizing runs intentionally tighter than casual apparel.
